Let Us Read and Let Us Dance

“Let us read, and let us dance; these two

amusements will never do any harm to the

world.” ~ Voltaire

  • Making up rhymes or puppet plays
  • Using iPads
  • Changing the words to a favourite song
  • Writing a shopping list
  • Reading a recipe and doing some cooking or baking
  • Making birthday invitation
  • Sending an e-mail to a friend or relative
  • Reading the comics
  • Writing thank you cards
  • Playing board games
  • Visiting a public library
  • Drawing
  • Reading your cereal box
  • Listening to and moving to music
  • Writing stories
  • Looking at and discussing advertisements in magazines
  • Singing along to a song with the lyrics
That is just a SHORT list of some of the ways that literacy skills are used and practiced at home and at school. I am sure you can think of more! On a short walk through the halls and classrooms this afternoon (and on any given day at DDS!) I caught some wonderful shots of children and adults engaged in reading.

Just a reminder that we are currently collecting gently used books for the upcoming Calgary Reads book sale that is being held at the end of May. For more information visit: http://calgaryreads.com/news-events/cbccalgary-reads-book-sale/
Thank you for all your generous donations!
